5 Things I'd Do If I Had To Get In Shape Again…
My friend asked me the other day, what would I do if I had to drop 45lbs again right now… So it got me thinking and I’ll tell you in detail what I told them.
If you want to lose 20+ pounds and look confident with your clothes off while increasing energy at the same time read on…
1. I Would Have More Daily Systems of Habits to Tick Off - one being walking in the morning and after meals
My aim would be for a minimum of 6k steps a day and the target would be over 10k steps
I’d break these walks up into mini walks throughout the day so it didn't feel like one long walk that never ended.
I would add to it by getting up and walking around after completing a task at my desk.
I would also use walks to listen to podcasts, clear my head or do work calls but on the go - 2 birds and 1 stone and all that
2. I'd Start Small by Switching from any High-Calorie Drinks to drinking water or cordial/squash.
Mainly because it's an easy calorie swap, most people mindlessly drink their calories, when you can save them up for tasty treats lol.
Also drinking water is one of the most underrated habits for a lean body.
I'd drink in the morning to rehydrate from the night's sleep, before and after my meals and really whenever I could.
It helps you increase feelings of fullness, and boosts energy, and oftentimes hunger can just be boredom or dehydration in disguise.
3. I'd Aim for 3 Weight Lifting Sessions a Week and Do Less Cardio
The best exercise to get lean is weight training because you want to keep your muscles as you lose body fat.
This keeps your metabolism running at a high rate which is KEY.
One of the mistakes I would avoid from my past is thinking that I can't do a workout and have it be effective unless I’m dripping in sweat and have minimum rest periods - this isn’t how muscle is built and I’d remind myself I’m not doing circuits, I’m trying to build up muscle so that I can eat more at rest.
If I only could workout at home I'd get a pair of adjustable dumbbells like power blocks and a bench.
Those are enough to get a great simple effective workout in.
I’d schedule these into my work calendar as important meetings, as what is more important than your health?
Oh that's right…. Nothing.
4. I'd Eat High-Protein Foods Way More
I'd aim for .8g/1g per pound of body weight minimum. This helps me build muscle while losing body fat.
Protein also helps in shredding off fat = Winner.
5. I'd Get 7-8 hours of Quality Sleep.
I’d buy my blackout blinds way earlier as they are a game changer!
I’d aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time
As a night owl I’m not great at this, but I do however make sure I always get at least 7 hours sleep
Better sleep means more energy & greater control of appetite.
Bonus Point
I would have hired a coach much earlier to guide me on the right training path, so I wouldn't have wasted years sweating in the gym with poor results and a lot of wasted time and effort.
Now I don’t sweat ever and have much better results with less effort - Go figure.
You're always one system away from getting your body back in shape.
All you have to do is implement and be consistent
